Anita H. Garza 85, of Pearsall, entered rest on June 12, 2022. She was born to George and Virginia T. Hernandez on October 1, 1936.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Father: George W. Hernandez Sr. and Mother: Virginia T. Hernandez and her brother: George T. Hernandez Jr.


She is survived by her 4 daughters: Elva (Juan) Trevino from Lawrenceville, GA and their 4 children: Angelica Trevino-Greene, Juan Trevino, Aracelli Rodriguez (Stephen) and Jose Luis Trevino; Dalia (Ramon) Yañez from Bryan, Texas and their 4 children: Ramon (Nicolette) Yañez Jr., Alfredo Yañez (Courtney), Melissa Yañez and Orlando (Kelly) Yañez; Thelma (George) Siller and their 3 children: Celeste (Gabe) Cantu, Maribel (Pete) Martinez and Marcus (Crystal) Siller; and Margot Delgado (Lalo) Viesca and her 2 daughters: Marisa Delgado and Alisa Delgado; and 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


She is survived by her sister, Alma Salinas, brother, Arnoldo (Nandy) and spouse, Teresa (Tere) Hernandez and sister-in-law, Irene Hernandez (George+) all from Pearsall, Texas.


She came from humble beginnings as a rancher's daughter. She later married and started raising their 4 daughters. After several years of working in the farm industry they purchased a home in the city and relocated to town. Petitioner of a lawsuit in favor of cafeteria workers against race discrimination (Garza vs Pearsall ISD). Attended South Texas Jr college an achieved an Associate Degree. During her prime years she served as Mayor Pro Tem and City Council Elder Woman. During this time, she served 5 consecutive terms. She was involved in politics and was part of the Raza Unida movement. Radio program La Voz del Barrio. Petitioner of redistricting suit Silva vs Frio County. She was known for her services as a Paralegal in the community with South Texas Rural Legal Aid working in Pearsall and later in Laredo. She was innovative and starting a newspaper article that ran in the Pearsall Leader for many years called Anita's Corner. ORGANIZATIONS: Sacrificio, South Texas Rural Health Services, CSA Head Start Parent Advisory Council, Camino Real Health Systems, AACOG Senior Citizens committee, Frio County Childcare Board, Frio County Drug Study Task Force.


A Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall. Services will conclude at the church.
