Billie Chlonette Stewart of Devine, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023 after an extended battle with cancer & dementia. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Glen H. Stewart, sons Justin Stewart, Shane Stewart and wife Kara, and granddaughters Kenadee and Kambell Stewart.
Billie was born on February 13, 1943 to James (Jack) and Genevieve Rodgers. She graduated from Northside High School (now called John Marshall HS) in 1961 in San Antonio, Texas. She then attended San Antonio College and worked at Southwest Research Foundation in San Antonio as a lab technician before starting a family. Billie was a great Mom to Justin and Shane, always being there for them. Raising two very independent boys isn't easy, but she was definitely up for the task. Billie was always willing to help someone in need or who might be less fortunate. She would drop whatever she was doing to give of her time or resources for anyone. Billie had a love for all animals and using her hands to make very meticulous pieces of needlework with her ability to crochet and knit.
Prior to the challenges of her illness, Billie was an active member of Black Creek Baptist Church and always enjoyed singing in the choir and working in the nursery. The absolute pride and joy of Billie's world were her two granddaughters, Kenadee and Kambell, along with her daughter-in-law Kara. Having only sons, her world was complete when all 3 came into her life.
Billie is preceded in death by her parents Jack Rodgers, Jr. and Genevieve Rodgers, her brother James Rodgers III(Jackie) and wife Jeanette Rodgers.
A Graveside service will be held at the Black Creek Community Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, December 8, 2023. Visitation and a meal will follow at Black Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
A special thanks to Mary Alice and her staff at M. A. Assisted Living for the care and comfort they provided. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Black Creek Baptist Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
