Carrie Jo Vaughan Roberts

January 26, 1923 — October 7, 2020

Carrie Jo (Vaughan) Roberts, age 97, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2020 with her loving son, Gus, by her side.  From her birth on January 26, 1923 until her death on Wednesday, she loved everyone around her, especially her family.

Born and raised in Pearsall Texas, Carrie Jo was married to Bill Roberts for over 40 years, and they had one son Gus.  During WWII she helped build bomb sights.  After the war she was a PE teacher and coach in the Pearsall schools. Bill and Carrie Jo owned and operated the Porter House Inn and restaurant for many years.  The restaurant was known for Carrie Jo’s excellent cooking, especially her buffets.   She was an active member in the American Legion and Moose Lodge.  She loved playing bridge on Fun Friday and was very artistic making porcelain dolls and sewing.  Her loves were family, church, cooking and the Spurs, in that order.

Carrie Jo was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pearsall until she moved to Devine and became a member of Calvary Community Church in Castroville where she loved going each Sunday.  When she wasn’t in church, you could find her watching Jimmy Swaggart on TV.

She is survived by her son, Gus Roberts (Beverly); grandchildren, Cynthia Traylor (Dennis), Casey DuBose (David), Rhonda Levy (Wayne), Coy Ricord (Billie Jo), Shane Ricord;  great-grandchildren (great -great-grandchildren), Amanda and Rob Stephenson (Emily, Olivia, Madilyn), Barret and Cara Traylor (Tristan, Addyson, Lawson), Colleen and Rome Burleson (Jocelyn), Ethan Traylor, Griffin DuBose, Porter DuBose, Britny and Charlie Stricker (Charlie, Cooper, Chloe), Weston and Chelsea Levy  (Timber, Wade), Seth Levy, Cody and Kaylin Brown ( Cannon, Chad), Bailey Ricord (Logan), Dillon Ricord, Luke Ricord, Faith Ricord, William Ricord and Gracie Ricord.

Preceded in death by loving husband Bill Roberts: father, Clyde C. Vaughan: mother, Fannie Wickware Vaughan; brother Clyde Vaughan, sister Mary McKinley, and sister Dorothy Wright, and we can’t forget her dog, Collie that she loved so much.

Her family and friends will miss her greatly; but are comforted knowing that she has been called home to Jesus and reunited with her love, Bill.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed. Please limit physical contact to members of your immediate family only.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the Friotown Cemetery.
