Donald R. Haass of Devine, Texas entered eternal rest on April 26, 2024.
Donald was born on July 29, 1938 to Richard and Clara (Schott) Haass of Devine, Texas. After graduating from Devine High School in 1956, he began his career at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
At Kelly AFB, his first four years consisted working half a day on B2 bombers, F102 aircraft and F106 aircraft while attending aircraft electronic school the other half. In 1972, he transferred to material management where he worked on upgrade modifications on all planes stationed at Kelly AFB. From time to time, he would make trips to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. to get new aircraft modifications approved. Also, he made trips to Brazil and various United States Air Force Bases to upgrade planes and train Air Force individuals on the changes.
After retiring in 1995, his time was spent consisted of working in his yard, watching his grandsons play sports, watching his beloved Spurs and Cowboys play on TV and greyhound racing. He was a part owner of over 45 greyhounds that raced at various racetracks in the United States and Mexico.
Donald married the love of his life, Mattie Jane (Hinton) Haass, on June 25, 1960 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine, Texas. Donald and Mattie were married for 63 years and loved traveling the United States with friends and visiting the casinos in Las Vegas, Louisiana and Eagle Pass. Most of all though was making memories with their grandsons at the beach in Corpus Christi Texas.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Clara Haass, brothers David Haass Sr. and Leo Haass, brother in law Dwight Black, sister in laws Meredith Haass, Becky Haass, extended family Marion "Bubba" Hinton, Glen Hinton, Bill Love, Peggy Moore, father and mother in law Milton and Sally Jay Hinton.
He is survived by his wife Mattie Jane Haass, son Brent Haass, grandsons Cameron and Sarah Haass, Corey Haass and fiancée Shelby Spivey, Rush Haass, great grandsons Joseph Haass, Jesse House and John House, sister Mae Black, sister Linda and Floyd Lutz, brother Lawrence and Donna Haass, sister in law Shirley Haass, extended family Bill and Emmalois Hinton, Jonell Hinton, Myrtle Ann Hinton Kent, Sue Love, Lou and Donald Glass as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald dearly loved the lord, family, friends and was a life-long member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine, Texas.
The family would like to thank the Christus Santa Rosa at Westover Hills Hospital in San Antonio and the Devine Health and Rehabilitation in Devine for the wonderful care of Donald in the final month of his life.

Services will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, with the Rosary recited 9:00 A.M. - 9:45 A.M., brief visitation until Mass beginning at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Devine, Texas with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
