Dr. Thomas Peyton Nowlin, IV, 47, of Austin, Texas, passed away on September 4th, 2020. Thomas was born in Heidelberg, Germany to Dr. Thomas Peyton Nowlin, III and Christie McMillan Nowlin on September 4, 1973. He obtained his Bachelor of Science, Biology degree from UTSA, graduating with honors. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree at UTMB Galveston. Through the United States Army, Thomas completed his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center and was transferred to Ft. Hood in Killeen, TX. He received multiple awards while serving in the Army, including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War in Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Medal. Thomas volunteered with Austin Smiles and traveled to several Latin American countries to help children with cleft palates. Thomas was many things. He was a surgeon who healed people. He was a veteran who served his country. He was an artist who painted and authored several short stories, including one about the infamous Donkey Lady. Thomas had a special talent for singing and songwriting. He was always whistling a tune and strumming a guitar. There are lyrics written on scraps of paper in every room. Hunting was his favorite past time, a skill he was taught by his father and grandfather. He spread his love for hunting to his friends and family by founding Texas Dove Slayers Association Bigfoot Chapter. Not only was he the president he was also the reigning horseshoe tournament champion. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new foods. He traveled the world, taking the kids on adventures to see different cities and countries. But most of all, he was a father who loved his children. Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Thomas P. Nowlin, III, his grandfather, Thomas P. Nowlin, II, his grandmother Roberta Nowlin, his grandfather Thomas C. McMillan, his grandmother Emily Marguerite McMillan. Thomas is survived by his children, Thomas P. Nowlin, V and Madelyn K. Nowlin, his mother Christie Nowlin, his sisters Rebecca Nowlin, Jennifer Nowlin, and Amanda Nowlin Palos (Sergio Palos) and numerous nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Michelle Nowlin. He is also survived by his dog, Wet Nose Janet. Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 12:00 PM with family receiving friends at 11 am at the Long View Cemetery in Bigfoot TX. Services will conclude at the cemetery. Masks are required to attend the graveside service and practice social distancing.
