Eduardo (Eddy) Cortez

February 18, 1951 — February 10, 2022

Eduardo (Eddy) Cortez, 70, of Lytle, TX, entered eternity on February 10, 2022. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

A Celebration of Eddy’s life will be from 3-8pm (Service from 7-8pm) Wednesday, February 23rd at the First Baptist Church, 18627 N. Prairie Street, Lytle, TX.; Pastor James Engle of First Baptist Church will be officiating.

Eddy was born in Coal Mine, TX., to Prudencia and Jose Justo Cortez on February 18, 1951.

He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and retired Civil Service in 2000.

Eddy was married to Maria G. Cortez and was committed to her in marriage for 51 years; they would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary on February 21st.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Justo and Prudencia Cortez; brother, Jose Justo Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Maria G. Cortez; his sons, Rudy and Derik Cortez; his daughter, Marissa Almaskiry and son-in-law, Jonathan Almaskiry;  granddaughters, Sara and Natalie Cortez; grandsons, Jose Cortez and Liam Almaskiry; brothers, Richard (Ninfa) Cortez, Henry (Alice) Cortez, Rudy (Mary) Cortez, Albert (Isidra) Cortez; and his sister-in-law, Betty Cortez.

Eddy loved talking to people, having coffee and pan dulce with family and friends. He was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and enjoyed bible study at his church. Eddy's pride and joy were his grandchildren and seeing his grandkids play sports. If you could find Eddy anywhere, it would have been with his crossword puzzle in hand, wearing his Lytle Pirates T-shirt, at a Football game, track meet, or basketball game, somewhere. He called everyone sister or brother no matter who you were and truly believed in God as his father and savior.

Eddy is forever loved and will be dearly missed.
