Elmer Woods Lindsey of McKinney, Texas, passed away November 8, 2019 at the age of 98. He was born in Devine on September 25, 1921 to Rufus Elmer and Dovie (Cude) Lindsey.
Elmer is a 1941 graduate of Bigfoot High School and is a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Algeria, North Africa; and Italy. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for over 32 years, until being medically retired. Elmer was a member of First Baptist Pearsall, where he served as deacon, and supported numerous church activities. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing dominoes, specifically 42. He was a fan of the Spurs and the Astros, but also supported the Mavericks and the Rangers after he moved to McKinney.
Elmer was a Godly man with a servant’s heart, which led him to be an active Mason for over 70 years, as well as a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Helen “Liz” Elizabeth (Rosenauer) Lindsey; daughter, Barbara Barnett; two grandchildren, Pamela Clapp and Jason Barnett; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Clapp and Kelsey Clapp; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stanley Woods; grandson, Sheldon Neal; brother, Raymond; sisters, Ruby Buttram, Floy Kate Lewis, and Amy Ross; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 608 E Trinity St, Pearsall, Texas 78061 on Thursday, November 14, from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.; family time will be from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 15, at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Pearsall, 204 S Walnut St, Pearsall, Texas 78061. Interment will follow at the Pearsall Cemetery, Hwy 140 E.
