Devine, TX - Evelyn Byrd, “Miss Byrdie” a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 9, 1951, in Poteet, TX, Evelyn lived a life full of love, joy, and cherished moments. Her warm spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Evelyn is joined in heaven by her son, Keith, her parents, her sister and countless friends and family members. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Byrd, her daughter, Tammy Williams and her husband Rickey, grandsons Nick and his wife, Sara and their children, Walker, Kip and Heidi, Blake and his wife, Erin and her youngest grandson, Greyson. The titles of Little Granny, Aunt Byrdie and Miss Byrdie were her greatest joys.
There is no one who could possibly love her hometown of Devine more than Miss Byrdie. From the time she started babysitting to working at the school as a substitute teacher then paraprofessional and decades at The Little Red Rooster, she spent her days loving on the children of Devine. Miss Byrdie touched the lives of many families and impacted generations in the community.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Primrose Funeral Service chapel in Devine. Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Evelyn Byrd on Saturday, October 14th at First Baptist Church in Devine, Texas at 10:00am. A memorial service will be held to pay tribute to her remarkable life, with cherished memories and stories shared by loved ones. Following the service, there will be a burial at Moore Memorial Cemetery with a reception following at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall where friends and family can come together to remember Evelyn's joyous spirit and share their heartfelt condolences.
In honoring her memory, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause that Evelyn held dear to her heart.
Evelyn Byrd will forever be treasured for her talkative nature, perpetual smile, warm hugs and unwavering love for her community. She was truly one-of-a-kind and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched.
