He graduated high school and was then drafted into the United States Army. Where he went to serve in Germany and had numerous stories about his time there.
Mr. Ornelas returned from the service and was a farmer most of his life. Being a farmer was his passion. He would say he was so smart or we were so smart because we were raised on the farm. Having a home garden whatever size it was brought so much joy to him. He enjoyed the fruits of his labor and loved to share with everyone. Educating us on gardening and farming brought him so much joy.
He was also a United States Postal worker where he delivered mail in Pearsall and Moore. He was known for delivering everyone's mail driving his truck in the middle seat and steering the wheel with his left hand. He was very talented to drive like this and everyone knew what he was doing when. He got to know everyone and loved to talk to people during his route. Filemon enjoyed meeting extended family members and talking about memories of delivering their loved one's mail.
Mr. Ornelas was also a part of Texas Farm Bureau Frio County where he spent over 35 years by serving on the board and was president at one time. He loved being a part of Farm Bureau especially when he was able to assist in coordinating scholarships for the students. He was also a part of the hiring process of some of the receptionists and everyone knew who he was.
He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Filemon was so proud of his family in everything they did. May he rest in eternal peace and watch over us from heaven. There will forever be a void without him however we have so many beautiful memories. He will be greatly missed!!
