Gary Lynn Machen, 75, of Pearsall, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He was born to O.W. Machen and Marie Machen on April 21, 1945 in Robstown, Texas.
Gary was a long time resident of Frio County. He was a farmer, rancher, and avid hunter. Gary was on the All American Team for Competition Shooting and stayed in the top 5 in the United States for 10 consecutive years. Gary was very instrumental as one of the founding members of the Texas Wildlife Association. He sat on many boards and committees helping set guidelines and rules for hunting and deer industry, as well as protecting property rights for landowners. In 2005, he brought the Los Cazadores contest to Frio County and helped build the Los Cazadores store and restaurant.
Gary was married to the love of his life, Barbara Machen, for 54 years. They made their home at the O.W. Machen Ranch where Gary became one of the top whitetail deer breeders in Texas. He loved watching old westerns and his favorite sport, baseball, with his two girls, Hallie and Madison Dugosh. They all spent countless hours hunting, playing cards, and laughing.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, O. W. (Cap) Machen, mother, Ina Marie Machen, and son, Cap Lyn Machen. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Machen, Justin and Amy Dugosh, and daughters Hallie and Madison.
The family will have a private burial with a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, and for those who desire, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Pearsall Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 292, Pearsall, Tx., 78061, c/o Nancy Harris.
