Harvey Squire’s Obituary
On October 26, 2019, Harvey Orville Squire, loving husband of 46 years to Forrestena “Tena” and father of John David, James Matthew, and Sarah Katheryn, went home to be with his lord at the age of 71 in San Antonio, Texas. Harvey was preceded in death by his son, John David; his parents, Valeska Emma and Harley David Squire Sr; brother, Harley David “Buddy” Squire Jr; in-laws, Forrest Willard and Lula May Rotramel; brother-in-law, Paul Hymel; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane and Billy Marek.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Tena; son, Matthew and wife Laura; daughter, Sarah and husband Kiel; grandchildren, Rebekah Katheryn Boehme (7), Baylee Anne Boehme (6), Logan David Squire (3), Brayden Thomas Boehme (2), and Jack William Squire (1); sister, Mary Bryce and husband James; brother, Charlie Squire and wife Rose; sister/brother-in-laws, Judy and Dale Lusk, Alvena Hymel, James and Linda Rotramel, John and Mary Rotramel; nieces and nephews (who called him “Uncle Butch”), Donna Reynolds, Debbie Weers, Julie King, James Bryce Jr, Becky Bryce, Andy Squire, Jennifer Squire, Blaine Rotramel, Jamie Zavodny, Jeremy Rotramel, Nathan Rotramel, Devin Rotramel, Ryan Rotramel, and David Marek. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
Harvey was born on October 17, 1948 in Castroville, Texas and resided in Devine, TX with his wife Tena. Harvey grew up on a farm in LaCoste, Texas, attended Central Catholic High School, and later graduated with his bachelors in Operations Management and minor in Finance from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He met Tena on a blind date on New Year's Eve 1972, set up by Brian (Harvey's cousin) and Gaye Neil Long (Tena's friend). They were later married on July 28, 1973 at Devine First United Methodist Church. After college, he started working at South Texas Tire Test Fleet in Devine and later Long & Associates Tire Testing in Lytle. Harvey’s life centered around being the best husband, father, and Pa Pa. Harvey also loved his community and wanted to make sure it was better for generations to come, as he was Mayor of Devine from 1977-1985; active in the Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Star, his church, Devine Masonic Lodge #590, Devine Athletic Booster Club, leading Boy Scout troops, and coaching numerous sports teams for his children. He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren, who adored him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 2:00-9:00 P.M. at Hurley Funeral Home Chapel in Devine, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Devine First United Methodist Church in Devine, Texas with internment to follow at Devine Evergreen Cemetery.
