Henry Anne Jacobs Copps

December 16, 1933 — August 13, 2023

Henry Anne Jacobs Copps passed away on August 13, 2023 at the age of 89.  She was born December 16, 1933, in Pearsall, Texas to Alonzo (Lonnie) Jacobs and Ruth Furgurson Jacobs Klattenhoff. She was raised on the family ranch. She married the love of her life, Freddie Corley Copps, who predeceased her in 2017. She is survived by her three loving children and their families, Mitch Copps and his wife, Peni and son Adam; Lonnie Copps and his wife, Kim and children, Jacob and Marianne; and Corley Anne Copps Cox and husband, Jerry, and children Carson and Lauren Crawley and her husband Jacobs. She adored her great grandchildren Cordy and Laudie Crawley.

Throughout her life, Henry Anne was a rancher, rancher's wife, artist, small business owner, florist, gardener, Sunday school teacher, Third grade teacher and Kindergarten teacher. As a teacher she was a proxy parent/mother to all her third grade and kindergarten students and even in her last days received loving care from some of her students. She loved playing organ and singing with the children she taught in Sunday School.

After graduating from Dilley High School she planned to further her education at SMU.

However with the unexpected death of her father, she changed her plans to be closer to home and attended Trinity University where her father and his family had attended. She met Freddie at Trinity and they married in August 1955.

Henry Anne was named after her great grandmother because Big Papa, her grandfather, always wanted a grandchild named after his mother, Henery Ann Sage. Henry Anne's father was born in the house that she was raised in where she and Freddie made their home for 62 years. She worked cattle on horseback with her dad but after he died she lost interest for herself. She was very supportive and involved in Freddie and her children raising, training and competing with horses.

One of the many highlights of her years was the hunting seasons which brought many new friends into her life. She looked forward to cooking and making her famous extra large 7 up cake and spending time visiting with every group. Over the years, they became her ever expanding extended family.

Henry Anne seemed to have her hands in many activities in Dilley and other areas of South Texas. In her early years you could find her along with other wives in her living room clipping pictures for the Lions Club annual rodeo program, supervising the grounds care at First United Methodist Church in Dilley, Texas where she was a member her entire life. Grounds keeping did not end at the church as she kept a close eye and involvement in the care of Covey Chapel Cemetery where many generations of her family now rest.

She loved to tell the story how she and her Dad would haul water in wooden barrels to the cemetery and keep the grass mowed, a responsibility she continued all her life.

Anyone who knew her well, noticed that she appreciated nice clothes, well groomed hair, polished finger nails, and pretty jewelry. She did not like facial hair on men and made others very aware of her opinion.

She was very appreciative of all the great care and attention she received these last several months. She enjoyed the visits, the conversations and the loving care from everyone and commented often how wonderful all the people were that looked after her. She was especially blessed by her friend, companion and caregiver for many years, Cruz Olivarez. Her entire family thank each of you for the care, attention and love you gave her. You are all a blessing to her and us.
