Jack Norman Bateman, 92, of Lytle, TX entered eternal rest on Monday, June 26, 2023.
He was born October 31, 1930 (Halloween), in San Antonio, TX, to James “Jim” Wiley Bateman and Rose Alma Meinhardt.
In 1947, Jack enlisted in the Marines where he served for 5 years before leaving to attend college. He is a 1958 graduate of University of Texas, Austin where he received his BBA. He went on to receive his MBA from Baylor University in 1969. Jack was an Army Ranger from 1954 to 1958. He then enlisted in the regular Army from 1958 to 1979, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam. In his retirement, he worked as a bookkeeper for Harris Western Center in Lytle, TX.
Jack is proceeded in death by his parents, Rose Matthews and Jim Bateman; his sons, Jay and Roger Bateman; and his, daughter, Karen Bateman.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bethel Kay Bateman (Baker); his daughter, Kris Robbins; stepdaughters, Brenda Kay Garnand (Larry) and April Hebert (Mike); and stepsons, Kevin and Mark Pringle, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Jack was an avid golfer and was affectionately called a ‘golf ball head’ by his grandchildren. He found great joy in spending his hours tinkering away in his woodshop, where he made cabinets, shoe racks, desks, wall hangings and anything else requested. The ‘fee’ he collected for these fine, hand-made furnishings was happily donated to the Lytle Methodist Church, where Jack was a congregant.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lytle Methodist Church, 19341 S. Somerset Street, Lytle, Tx. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 10:00 am.
Graveside Service will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209 on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 1:30 pm.
