Jaime O. Alcala, Sr., a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 22, 2023, in his hometown of Pearsall, Texas. He was born on August 12, 1948 to Lucio and Trinidad Alcala.
Jaime was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Alcala and sisters, Carmen Gonzalez and Raquel Hernandez.
Jaime was a dedicated and hardworking individual who found joy in staying active and busy. He had a deep love for the great outdoors and could often be found working outside whether cold or hot. As he engaged in various projects around the house, he always felt most content when keeping himself occupied. His unwavering work ethic and commitment to being productive were truly admirable qualities.
Born and raised in Pearsall, Jaime had a strong connection to his hometown throughout his life. It was here that he not only witnessed the world around him evolve but also played an active role in contributing to its progress. For four years, Jaime served in the Navy before embarking on a career that included working at all the military bases in San Antonio, Texas. His dedication to serving his country and community was evident as he fulfilled his responsibilities with great honor.
When Jaime wasn't working or serving others through his military service, he found solace in being surrounded by loved ones. Spending quality time with his grandkids brought him immense joy, and he treasured every moment he shared with them. An incredibly strong bond was formed between Jaime and his grandchildren as they looked up to him as their role model and confidant.
Jaime's marriage to Mary Lou Alcala lasted for an impressive 50 years, serving as a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to one another. Their journey together was filled with countless memorable moments that demonstrated the strength of their relationship.
He will be deeply missed by those who survive him, including his wife, Mary Lou Alcala; their children, Jaime Alcala, Jr. (Terry), Richard Alcala (Pat), and Melissa Alcala; brothers, Luis O. Alcala, Ruben Alcala (Rosie); sister, Oralia Trevino.
In addition to his immediate family, Jaime leaves behind a legacy of love through his cherished grandchildren: Denise, Avery, Lilyana, Madalynn, Sophia, Isabella, Tristan, and Ryan. Each of them holds special memories of their Papo close to their hearts and will forever be grateful for the guidance and love he provided them throughout their lives.
Jaime O. Alcala, Sr.'s passing has left an indelible void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to hard work, sense of responsibility, and unwavering love for his family will always serve as an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his presence.
A memorial rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of a mass at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Pearsall, Texas. Interment will follow in Pearsall Veterans Cemetery with military honors to be rendered by the United States Navy.
