C. Janice McCain (Jan) Gale was born in Moore, Texas, on October 23,1926, to Imon and Agnes McCain. Janice was one of six children in a family of three boys and three girls who made their home in Moore, Texas. Janice was educated in the Moore Independent School and graduated as Valedictorian in 1943. She attended Southwest Texas State University for a short time. During World War II, she taught elementary school in Moore, Texas, where the school building still stands.
Jan worked for Dr. Clarence Taylor in Ada, Oklahoma in the 1950's. After she married Joe Bob Gale in 1957, the family moved to Tulsa where she was a devoted mother and homemaker. In the 1970's, she worked in retail shops including Country Casuals. She then worked at Oral Roberts University in the Human Performance Lab and later served as the Administrative Secretary in the School of Dentistry. After leaving ORU, she continued to work in medical/dental billing until her retirement. Throughout her life, Jan was active in church. She taught Sunday School and loved to sing in the choir.
She is survived by her three daughters Jeannine (Dr. Nicholas) Hunter, Joanie (Rev. Jason) Elmore and Jill (Michael) Young. Her grandchildren include Ann-Janette (Jay) Webster, Jarrod Elmore, Dr. Kathryn (Dr. Blake) Henry, Kellie (Ricardo) Ornelas, Ashlee Elmore, Dr. Justin (Amanda) Young and Jessica (Chris) Thurman. She has many great grandchildren ranging in age from 7 months to 24 years old. Jan was lovingly referred to by all as "Gram". She was deeply devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved her very much.
She is also survived by her brother Dr. John (Dorothy) McCain and sister Janie (Guy) Buckles and many nieces and nephews in her beloved Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Doyle McCain and Jack McCain, her sister Ina Gustafson and her girls' father, Joe Bob Gale.
Jan passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024, at the age of 97. Jan's Memorial Service will be held at Woodland Acres Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 2 pm. The interment will be at Moore Memorial Cemetery in her hometown of Moore, Texas on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
