Jose "Cano" E. De Anda

June 23, 1931 — November 19, 2021

Jose “Cano" E. De Anda, age 90, left this Earth, on November 19, 2021, from his home, with his children by his side.

Jose was born June 23, 1931, in Derby, Texas, to Matilde and Inocencia De Anda (nee Orosco).

Jose’s mother passed away when he was 10 years old and, as they did in those days, he left school in 6th grade to help support his family.  Jose met a beautiful, princess,  from Cotulla, Lupe Ruiz, and they married in 1950.  They had their first 2 sons, Joe and Eliberto, while in Texas.

As a man with a strong work ethic, Jose started as a field worker.  Seeking opportunity, they moved to Bensenville, Illinois where he worked at an aluminum plant, steel plant, and as a promoter for Tejano and Mexican bands.  In Illinois, the family grew where Jose and Lupe had their remaining children, Eduardo, Yolanda and Efrain.  Aside from his work in the plants and in music, Jose also owned and ran “Club Latino”, a bar in Bensenville.

Unselfishly, Jose was well known for his open-door policy helping people he encountered in life in any way he could often accepting them into the family home until they got on their feet.

Jose was a man of many talents able to fix anything, build campers and loved hunting and fishing.

After Jose and Lupe retired, they returned to Texas and resided in Lytle, which Jose pronounced “Lyter”.

In 2016, after 65 years of marriage, Jose lost his loving wife, Lupe.  He was kidnapped by his children back to Illinois where he was able to witness the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series.  Jose missed his home In Lytle wanting to return where his youngest son, Efrain, took the responsibility of taking care of him.

Tragically, Jose lost his son, Eliberto (survived by his wife, Vicky), in 2020 as a result of Covid.  He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Maria Guarjardo, Carolina Rivas and Margarita Rodriguez.

He is survived by his sons, Joe H. (Laura) of Wayne, Illinois; Eduardo (Claudia), of Geneva, Illinois; Efrain (Esther) of Lytle, Texas; his daughter, Yolanda (Dan), of Bartlett, Illinois; sister, Lupe Hernandez, of O’Donnell, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jose was a man of very few words, but he had a heart that said so much to those he loved.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Hurley Funeral Home-Lytle, Chapel, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm.
