Julia Rojas Garcia was born January 7, 1937, in Robstown, Texas to Victoriano and Eusebia Rojas. Julia was preceded in death by her biological parents Victoriano and Eusebia Rojas, and adoptive parents Timoteo, and Francisca Ramirez, brothers Valentine J Rojas, Basilio J Rojas, and Victoriano J Rojas, and sister Juanita Billalobos. Julia is survived by her husband Leonel Garcia, sons, Leonel and wife Victoria, Ernest, and Javier, daughters Elizabeth and husband Jerry, Cynthia and husband Kenny, fifteen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Julia was later adopted by her godparents Timoteo and Francisca Ramirez and then moved to San Antonio where she attended South San High School. Julia was proud of having attended South San and would frequently remind us of that during conversations. Julia then moved to Natalia where she attended Natalia schools. She was very fond of some of her classmates which included Marion Taylor, Johnny Ward, and Alan Kempf.
In 1957, Julia met Leonel Garcia, and they later married. They were married for 67 years. Together, Julia and Leonel had five children, Elizabeth, Leonel, Ernest, Cynthia, and Javier.
Julia was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and attended regular mass services until she became ill. She enjoyed regular trips to San Juan, Texas to visit the Virgen of San Juan.
Julia worked at Kelly AFB for many years. She moved to Lackland AFB after Kelly closed where she worked at the base exchange until her retirement in May 2014. She also worked part-time at Triple C Steakhouse where she would say that she once waited on George Strait. That’s something else that she would not let us forget.
Julia had many hobbies. One of which was cooking. Julia enjoyed getting the family together on Sundays where she would make enough food to feed an army. As she would say, “If anyone goes away hungry, well, that’s their fault!” Julia enjoyed dancing. Julia and Leonel could frequently be found at dances. Julia could be found tearing up the dance floor at the old Cowtown and Country Gold dancehalls with her friends Dottie and Al Gray. She loved dancing cumbias by Fito Olivares, Tejano, and country music. Julia enjoyed the holidays. Fireworks on the 4th of July, Halloween where she enjoyed passing out candy to the kids, Thanksgiving where she always insisted, she bake the turkey, Christmas where it was not unusual to find her up on a ladder hanging Christmas lights, and New Year’s Eve.
