Julia Evelyn Smith New

Julia Evelyn Smith New of Derby, TX, one of 12 children of Gordon B. Smith and Roberta W. Watkins, went home to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 93 on October 2, 2020, one day after her birthday..

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Laxton H. New; her son Kevin New; and son-in-law Jerome Horton and her siblings: Monroe Smith, Lou Brown, Phillip Smith, Mary Cockrell, Nell Jackson, Robert Smith and Lillian Brooker. 

Julia is survived by siblings David/Mary Smith, Sue Burns, Gale/Dan Woell and Ollie Tanner. 

She is also survived by her children: Joanna Horton, Nancy/Donnie Barnes, Holly/Butch Vaughan, Bonny/Roy White, Larry New, Lexie/John Stewart, and Deanna New; grandchildren: Chad Vaughan, Heather/Eddie Puente, Judd/Jessica Barnes, Trey Stewart, Alex Stewart, Charles Stewart, Lauren New, Laxton N. New, Ashton New and Austin New; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Julia was a beautiful, strong willed, independent woman who loved her strong willed children and all her family very much. She was laid to rest next to her husband and her youngest son during a private graveside service held on October 9th, her son Kevin's birthday. Loved but not forgotten! 

Memorial may be made to South Texas Children's Ministries or a charity of your choice. 

Arrangements are under the directions of the Hurley Funeral Home, Pearsall, Texas.
