Larry Clinton Stewart, 77, of Dilley, TX entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 6th, 2024.
Larry was born to Jackson Lex and Kathleen (Bennett) Stewart on January 25, 1947, in Dilley, TX and raised on the Stewart homestead north of Dilley off Martin Branch Road.
Larry obtained his private pilot's license on his 16th birthday in 1963, graduated from Dilley High School in May of 1965, and worked as a ferry pilot out of Uvalde, TX, flying all sorts of aircraft wherever they needed to be delivered.
With the Vietnam draft looming, Larry and his friend and classmate Mike Hardy voluntarily enlisted into the United States Army in 1966 together and served together during a tour in South Korea. Upon returning stateside, Larry would finish his enlistment at Fort Polk in Louisiana.
On September 16, 1967, he married Patricia Ann Gulley in Dilley, TX, after which Pat joined Larry in Louisiana while he was finishing his enlistment. They lived in Pearsall when Mike and Missy were born, and then they settled on the Stewart homestead, where Larry ran a cow-calf operation for many years. Except for a couple of years in West Texas, they would live there together until Pat's passing in 2019. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Dilley.
Larry flew crop dusters for a living for most of his career, working many years for Ag Supply out of Pearsall and Batesville, and had a reputation for being a skilled pilot. In the late 80s, he did a stint in west Texas flying for the government's predator eradication program before returning to crop dusting. He owned at least three airplanes of his own over a span of 40 years and was one of the few Dilley residents to ever commute to work via airplane.
He had a life-long affinity for hunting, fishing, archery, aviation, the Frio River, and his homestead.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Pat, his parents Lex and Kathleen, sister Shirley, niece Michelle, brother-in-law Jim Gulley, and father-in-law Charles "Cotton" Gulley.
