Leonel Garza Garcia, Sr.

November 6, 1935 — February 20, 2025

Leonel Garza Garcia was born November 7, 1935, in Agua Dulce, TX to Patricio Garcia and Jovita Garza. Leonel was preceded in death by his parent's Patricio and Jovita Garcia, his brothers, Leonardo, Vicente, Roberto, his sister Julia, his great granddaughter Dezmarie and his wife Julia Rojas Garcia.

Leonel is survived by his sister Sonia Zamora, daughters, Elizabeth and husband Jerry, Cynthia and husband Stephen, sons, Leonel Jr. and wife Victoria, Ernest, Javier, 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Leonel and his family were migrant workers and traveled back and forth from Michigan to Natalia where he and mom met in 1957 and later married.

He and mom were members of St John Bosco Catholic Church, and were members of the Catholic Cursillo movement in their younger days and very active in the church. They traveled regularly to San Juan, Texas to visit the Virgen de San Juan.

Leonel worked as a ranch hand for many years for Fischer Bailey's Dairy Farm just outside of Natalia. He also worked at Celotex in San Antonio, Aldridge Nursery in Von Ormy where we accompanied him on some out-of-town trips to Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth. He started working for the Texas Department of Transportation in 1970 and retired in 1994. Throughout his years of working at his regular job, he would work side jobs installing fences, barbwire, chain link, iron & privacy fences. I think this was really what he liked doing as he was still wanting to take out an ad in the newspaper to do this again! He also had other hobbies like making benches, tables, chairs and whatever he thought of making, he would try. He loved to bar-b-que but about 4 years ago, before mom got sick, his bar-b-que would be a little crunchy, lol. Leonel loved sweets, we had to be very careful because he would sneak one or two extra cupcakes or cookies all the time. Also, this is funny, but all of our lives, dad's birthday was celebrated on November 7th, then all of a sudden, a few years ago dad said his birthday was November 6th! For a few years he would get 2 birthday wishes from me, one on the 6th and one on the 7th, I think he just wanted more sweets!
