Luis Javier Mata, Sr., a dedicated truck driver and mechanic for over 30 years, passed away on August 28, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 24, 1954, in O'Donnell, Texas. Javier will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend.
Born to Ignacio M. and Felicitas Mata, Javier grew up alongside his siblings; Patricia Mata, Ignacio Mata Jr., Jose Martin Mata, Sandra Mata, Yolanda Quintero, Sergio Mata, Alvaro Mata and Ruben Benavidez. Throughout his life, he cultivated strong bonds with family & cherished their presence.


Javier was raised in Dilley, TX and graduated from Dilley High School in 1974. He was a man of hard work and determination. His career as a truck driver spanned over three decades retiring from Warren Transportation as an owner operator. During which he traversed countless miles across the country alongside his two brothers Martin and Ruben. His expertise extended beyond driving; he possessed an innate skill for mechanics. Javier had a keen eye for troubleshooting and fixing various mechanical issues.
Beyond work, Javier found great joy in spending quality time at his ranch with his loved ones. He treasured family moments while barbecuing and watching the Dallas Cowboys alongside his son and wife. Their shared enthusiasm for the sport became a cherished tradition that brought them closer together. He is preceded in death by his parents; & brothers, Ignacio Jr., Jose Martin & Alvaro.  


Javier married his wife, Debra Hernandez, in Pearsall on August 18, 1979. They settled down in Atascosa, TX and raised their son. Their enduring marriage lasted for an impressive 44 years filled with love and unwavering support.  Javier leaves behind his loving son, Luis Javier Mata, Jr., who himself found happiness in marriage to Venessa. Additionally, he is survived by his devoted brothers, Sergio Mata and Ruben Benavides; sisters, Patricia Mata, Sandra Mata and Yolanda Quintero, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held special places in his heart.


The arrival of granddaughter, Milani Mata, was undoubtedly one of the happiest moments in Javier's life. He embraced grandfatherhood with open arms, showering Milani with love and affection. Their bond will forever be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of witnessing it.
Javier, was a man of integrity, known for his heart, and unwavering dedication to his family. His warm smile and gentle demeanor made him a beloved presence in the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love, joy, and memories he shared.
May his soul find eternal rest, knowing that he left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the beautiful life Javier lived and honor his legacy of love and devotion.


Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm, at Primrose Funeral Services in Lytle, Texas.  A Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Macdona, Texas.  Services will conclude at church.
