Mandy Lee Davis Cross went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024.

Mandy was born June 12, 1977, in San Antonio to Linda (Welch) and Marshall Davis.

After attending Devine schools her entire life, she graduated from DHS in 1995. Not only did she excel in the classroom, but also on the basketball court. Her senior year, Mandy was selected as first team All-District, Sub-5-A First Team All San Antonio, TABC second team All-Region, TGCA All-Star, and Medina County MVP, along with Arabian MVP for the season.

She attended UTSA where she earned her BS degree in 1999. She received her master's degree from OLLU in 2008.

Mandy married William Cross on June 14, 2003. Then for the best Christmas gift ever, Madison was born Dec. 20, 2011. Mandy was a great mom and so dedicated and proud of Madison.

Following in her mom's footsteps Mandy began her career in education in 2000 in Medina Valley. After one year there, she came to Devine Middle School in 2001 where she taught for 19 years. She taught sixth-grade reading, eighth-grade math, health, and then hit her stride teaching BCIS and Careers in Computers.

In 2019, Mandy became the assistant principal at Ciavarra Elementary School. When COVID hit in 2020, Mandy's computer expertise was invaluable. She was instrumental in teachers being able "to turn it on a dime" from classroom teaching to Google Classroom.

She spent five years in the AP position before moving this August to the special education department as an ARD Facilitator.

Mandy was just a big kid at heart. She loved, loved Star Wars, table-top games and video games, Legos, Harry Potter, and watching shows with Madison. Mandy, Marly, and Madison would play Dungeons and Dragons for hours. Her office at the elementary was filled with Lego Star Wars characters, and all kinds of things that kids loved. She had the capacity to make real connections with both kids and the CES staff.

Madison loved to go on "road trips" with her mom. They didn't have to really go anywhere, maybe drive up to Kerrville, in the Hill Country, or another scenic route. They often went to San Antonio where they had their favorite stops- HTeoO, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the Lego store, and Boomtown Sports Cards and Collectibles.

Mandy is survived by her husband William and daughter Madison, her parents, Linda and Marshall Davis, and sister Marly. Also surviving Mandy are her in-laws, Kathy and Bill Cross, brother-in-law, Josh and wife Anna, and nieces Mia and Aria.

She also leaves behind many, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Our "vital statistics" certainly mold and shape the person we become; however, those facts don't really tell who we are and the impact we make on others' lives. Mandy was such a "force"; she always had time to listen, time to help, and took others into her fold.

Following are some random thoughts posted from many on Facebook. These thoughts and remembrances give us a glimpse into who the real Mandy was and how she impacted our lives.

...Chipotle, goodies from Gucci HEB, Cheery Cokes from Sonic, shows Friends and The Office, of course, Star Wars, notebooks, magnets, glitter pens, stickers. You had the incredible ability to always brighten someone else's day...

...I've never met anyone who cared so selflessly for others. She was the non-emotional to my emotional. I am a better person for knowing her. She frequently made shopping trips to Gucci HEB, and would feed me entirely too much of the best stuff! ...

...She was a rock for my son and for my family. He loved and trusted her. She was his safe place at school. She loved both of my kids as her own, as she did many other kids...

...Her antics made us laugh so hard and so often from random Camino sightings to her Star Wars obsession, from her persistence, and creativity (begging) for jeans days to her "homemade CDs. We love her and will miss her...

...from bg, random thoughts...Mandy was the "yin to my yang" She did numbers; I did words. We made a great team. She was great with kids and parents. She got running boards on her truck so she wouldn't have to push me, and her mother, up in the passenger seat. She was my filter and my "gatekeeper" when I needed one, which was often. She brought me chicken salad from Buc'ees and queso from Gucci HEB.

Mandy's life was filled with passion, dedication, and joy, and her impact will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Whether she was guiding students through the challenges of school, cherishing her time with her family, or spreading happiness through her love of Taylor Swift, Star Wars, and gaming, she brought light and laughter to everyone around her. Her legacy as a caring mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend will never be forgotten. Though she may no longer be with us, her memory will continue to inspire and comfort those whose lives she touched. 

And, last, but not least-May the force be with you.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Devine, and services will follow at 11 a.m. Mandy loved blue jeans, so we will honor her by wearing jeans to the service.
