Maria Reynalda "Reyes" Mata Sevier was called home by her creator on July 27, 2024 at the age of 82. She was born on January 5, 1942, to Juan Mata and Julia Martinez Mata in San Antonio, TX. She is the second to the youngest child of seven siblings.
Reyes married Fred C. Sevier, Jr. on February 12, 1968, and immediately moved to Lytle where she started her family and where she spent the rest of her adult life. She was a devoted wife and tenderly cared for Dad during his time of illness.
Reyes was infectiously joyous and happy, despite the many ailments that affected her the last 30 years of her life. Though she was strapped with a daily routine of medication, sugar checks, and insulin injections, she found ways to keep positive by enjoying the simple things like singing, reading her bible, word-search puzzles, cleaning her house, or as in the last ten years, going to Topi's and eating What-A-Burger almost daily. Her favorite show was The Price Is Right and was absolutely in love with Bob Barker. She loved the music of John Denver saying he had such a beautiful voice.
She adored her mother and took every opportunity to make sure Ama was tended to. She could spend what seemed like hours on the phone with her youngest sister, Mona, and laugh almost the entire time. Reyes had a close relationship with all her siblings and made every effort to visit with them.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many extended family and friends. She especially enjoyed visiting with others for pan dulce, a cafesito, or a sodita.
Reyes is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Ernestina Ramos, Petra Lopez, and Julia Simona Mata Castro, and brothers Johnny Mata, Sr., and Clemente Mata.
She is survived by her sister Josefa M Gomez and her seven children: Jose Antonio Sevier (Flora), Arturo Sevier, Julian Sevier (Sandra Harms), Elsa Sevier (Antonio Guzman), Patricia Sevier Nieto (Johnny), Alfred Sevier (Deanna) and Reynaldo Sevier (Linda Hernandez), grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and countless nephews and nieces.
She has 17 grandchildren: Crystal, Miranda, and Caleb Sevier; Alexander and Julianne Sevier; Johnathon and Thomas Castro and Cera and Jessica Martinez; Brianna, Daniella, and Justin Nieto; Julian James and Alexander James Sevier; and Ashlynn, Brenham, and Calyssa Sevier.
She has 15 great-grandchildren: Kirin Sevier; Remy Brainard; Mikael, Noah, and Ezequiel Castro; Judith, Camilla, and Silas Castro; Ethan Macias and Elijah and Harley Isaac; Drayden Gonzales and Zylah DelVillar; and Braelynn and Brixley Hernandez.
Reyes will be dearly missed and continued to be loved. Rejoice in your deserved peace and comfort.
