Marlene Katherine (Salzman) Schott, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. She married the love of her life Randolph Louis Schott in April 1956. Together they have left quite a legacy. She was a devoted wife and mother of seven children, Cheryl (Brett) Lorraine, Sandra (Richard) Collins, Laurie Schott, Marsha (Jerome) Whitley, Kathy (Keith) Crouch, Bryan Schott, Richard (Jennifer Allen) Schott. Her grandchildren include 15 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. Her great-grandchildren include 9 great-granddaughters and 25 great-grandsons. She has countless nieces and nephews.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents Louis Albert Salzman and Clara Mary (Hutzler), her beloved husband Randolph Louis Schott, her brothers, Marvin Salzman, Claude Salzman, Lee Allen Salzman, Leon Salzman, Winfred Salzman, James Salzman and an infant brother Alvin Salzman, and her sister Mary Ann (Salzman) Pons. She is also preceded in death by her grandson Matthew Thomas Whitley.
Marlene worked for Southwestern Bell before marrying Randy. She worked decades feeding children in the Devine Independent School District cafeteria. She was a master at making children happy and healthy. Her own children were fed a warm breakfast every day, cooked by her, before she left to start her day cooking for hundreds of children at school. She was home in time to make sure her children had a snack ready upon jumping out of the bus in the afternoon. There was not a doubt in the minds of their children of the love they had for each of them. The children were lovingly referred to by the bus driver as little grasshoppers attacking the garden that she and Randy so carefully maintained. Not only did she maintain the garden but preserved the bountiful harvest that it yielded.
Marlene was known by all for her loving, giving heart and her amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome in her presence. She has passed on so many talents to her children, neighbors, friends, and strangers. We will forever cherish the recipes that each of us has claimed as our favorites.....and there are many. Her children have carried on the tradition of canning vegetables, pickling, baking, and cooking.
