Nan J. Voss

August 21, 1930 — December 18, 2021

Nan was born on August 21, 1930, in Pearsall, Texas to Sam and Nannie Mae Johnson.  She is preceded in death by husband Lenier Voss; grandchild Jenifer Strait; parents; siblings Sam Boone, Toot, Bob, and Bill Johnson.

Nan is survived by her children Barbara Rendon (Bobby) and Norma Strait (George); grandchildren Shane Rendon (Kelly), Wade Rendon (Amy), and Bubba Strait (Tamara); great-grandchildren Lane Rendon, Kendall Rendon, Colt Rendon, Harvey Strait, Kennedy Rendon, and Jilliann Strait; sister-in-law Elene Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nan was the only girl and youngest of five children.  She grew up in Pearsall and graduated from Pearsall High School.  After high school, she met Lenier Voss at the local John Deere store.  They fell in love and married on June 16, 1951.  Within a few years, they were blessed with two daughters; Barbara and Norma.  Nan and Nere enjoyed taking the girls hunting for arrowheads, traveling to the coast to go fishing, and visiting nearby states.  Nan also enjoyed taking the girls and their cousins to San Antonio to Brackenridge Park, the zoo, and the River Art Show where her brother, Bob, displayed his art.  As the girls grew older, Barbara and Norma’s friends spent many hours at their house because Nan was so welcoming and made sure a fun time was had by all.  Several nights a week Nan, Nere, and the girls would have dinner and play cards, dominoes, and games at friends’ houses.  Nan and Nere frequented the Moose Lodge and The Fishing Hole to socialize, have a few drinks, and play dominoes.  Nan worked at the FHA office and every day after work, she looked forward to her daily drives with her Daddy around his land.  She loved living next door to her parents and having Barbara and Norma spend so much time with their grandparents.  Nan couldn’t wait to become a grandparent herself, and it didn’t take long for Barbara and Bobby, and Norma and George to grant her that wish.  Shane, Jenifer, Wade, and Bubba quickly became her prides and joys.  She loved teaching her young grandchildren how to play dominoes, cards, and other games.  She also looked forward to hunting and fishing with them.  As they grew older, she instilled in them her love of playing blackjack and having a good time.  She started a tradition of taking each grandson on a gambling cruise to the Bahamas for their 18th birthdays.  She carried the tradition over to Shane, Wade, and Bubba’s 21st birthdays and accompanied them on their first trips to Las Vegas.  The boys and their friends loved having Nan be a part of their festivities because she made things more fun.  She looked forward to her time with Kelly, Amy, and Tamara, as well.  Cooking classes, going out to eat, going to church, road trips, talking about cats, casino trips, getting mani/pedis, going to BINGO, playing card games, and good girl-talk were all activities they enjoyed together.  Seeing her grandsons become parents and give her 6 beautiful great-grandchildren was one of the biggest highlights of her life.  Her love for Lane, Kendall, Colt, Harvey, Kennedy, and Jilliann was undeniable.  She beamed with pride watching them do all of their activities and spending time with them.  She loved that they all looked forward to spending time with her and playing games with her, whether it be playing Wii bowling, Yahtzee, Uno, Battle, Left Right Center, board games, Memory, putting puzzles together, fishing at her pond, or anything else they wanted her to do.  Anything involving the great grandkids put a smile on her face.  Some other things in life that brought her joy were watching or attending Spurs games, having one of her cats in her lap, going to her family’s team roping events, and going to Las Vegas or Louisiana to gamble.  She also enjoyed playing 42, BINGO, and card games with her friends.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to her friends and caretakers at The Lodge.
