Patricia (Patty) McBrien Johnson
Patricia (Patty) McBrien Johnson joined the church triumphant on the evening of September 23, 2024, just 8 days from what would have been her 96th birthday. Patty was born in Frederick, Oklahoma, on October 1, 1928, to R. A. (Buster) and Thelma McBrien. She attended Fredrick High School where she graduated in 1945. On August 6, 1946, she married her high school boyfriend, Herman Johnson.
Their first child, Gary Johnson, was born on January 13, 1952. A few years later, on April 30, 1956, their son, Charles Johnson was born. Later that same year, in September 1956, they moved to South Texas, settling in Pearsall, where Herman and his late brother, Harold, began farming at Frio Town.
Over the ensuing years, Patty was a loving and supportive farmer’s wife, devoted mother, and grandmother. In 1981, Patty’s love for cooking and gardening developed into a business, when she founded Patty’s Herbs, the first grower/distributor of fresh-cut culinary herbs in Texas. Over the years Patty’s Herbs customers included, HEB, Whole Foods, Handy Andy, Sysco and many wholesale produce distributors and restaurants. Although Patty’s Herbs was sold in 2015, her legacy lives on as fresh culinary herbs continue to be sold under the Patty’s Herbs label. Patty was also a charter member of The Texas Department of Agriculture’s Go Texan program.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Buster and Thelma McBrien, husband, Herman Johnson, and grandson, Holden Johnson. She is survived by her son, Gary Johnson and wife, Sharlene, and son, Dakota; son Charles Johnson and his wife, Melissa, granddaughter Meagan Schwartz, husband Eric and their grandchildren, Lucy and Max, and grandson, Brien Johnson; granddaughter Andrea Seager, and her husband Chad, and their children Logan and Cash; grandson Russell Johnson and his wife Tori, and children, Luke and Foster; granddaughter Natalie Johnson and children, Hadley and Chloe. In addition, Patty is survived by many friends.
A graveside Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at the Frio Town Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any who are so inclined, donate to CAMP C.A.M.P., a camp for disabled children which Holden attended every summer and Patty supported over the years.
