In Loving Memory of Santiago Garcia
December 5, 1949 - February 1, 2024
Santiago Garcia, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 1, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born on December 5, 1949, in his hometown of Pearsall, Texas to Celia Garcia.
Santiago was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Amparo Garcia, celebrating 40 years of marriage together. Their union blessed them with the incredible gift of seven children. Lora Gomez and husband Emmitt, Dolores Roath and husband William, Delbert Pina, and wife Leslie, Melinda De Leon and husband Omar, Fernando Garcia and wife Cynthia, Sarah Duran and husband Ricardo, and Catherine Garcia were all fortunate to call Santiago their supportive and caring father and Father-in-law. Santiago had numerous siblings as well, Elena Medelez, Pablo Hernandez, Julia Torres, Ruben Garcia, Joe Garcia, Oralia Chavera, Velma Pruitt, Lupe Berrelez, and Juanita Rendon. His devotion to family extended even further, as he cherished his role as a doting "grumpy Grandpa" to his 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Santiago is preceded in death by his Brother, Candido Garcia, and his mother, Celia Garcia.
Santiago proudly served in the United States Navy, putting his life on the line for the freedom we all hold dear. With bravery and resilience, Santiago completed 22 years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to protecting others.
Santiago also dedicated his professional life to serving others as a Food Service Manager for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for a total of 30 years. His commitment to work exemplified his caring nature and desire to make a difference in people's lives.
Santiago was a man of many talents and interests. He had a passion for woodworking and would spend hours meticulously crafting crosses, clocks, and various other beautiful items using his wood burner. Each piece was a testament to his creativity and dedication.
Another pastime that brought Santiago joy was fishing. Though he may not have had the opportunity to indulge often, those rare fishing trips were cherished moments that allowed him to connect with nature and find solace in the serenity of the water.
As we remember and honor Santiago's life, may we reflect on the love and compassion he shared with us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
