With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Elliott "Bill" Sharp, who left this world on February 21st 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and unwavering generosity. Loving and beloved, modest and kind, Bill was honorable in all respects—a devoted family man, a trusted friend, and an extraordinary mentor who shaped the lives of many.
The oldest child of Mary Martin Sharp and Dr. William Elliott Sharp of Baytown, Bill was born in Houston on March 6, 1945.
Bill's passion for helping others extended far beyond his own family. At Bechtel, where he dedicated fifty years of his career (including his leadership in Bechtel’s restoration of 650 damaged oil wells in Kuwait following the Gulf War), he became an invaluable mentor to younger engineers. So great was his influence that the company established a weekly “Lunch with Bill” event, giving rising professionals the chance to learn from the best. He gave his time freely, offering guidance, encouragement, and a steady hand to those finding their way in their careers and lives. His generosity knew no limits—not just in knowledge, but in friendship, kindness, and an open-door willingness to help anyone in need.
Bill lived life with energy and enthusiasm, and his passions reflected that. He was a lifelong advocate for health and fitness, an avid marathon runner, and later a dedicated cyclist. He believed in pushing his limits, always striving for endurance and strength, setting an inspiring example for all those around him. When he wasn’t running or cycling, he could be found on the open road, proudly riding his Harley-Davidsons. The freedom of the ride was among his greatest joys.
Bill’s compassion extended to all creatures, especially his beloved dogs. They were more than pets—they were family. His deep love for animals was a testament to his gentle and caring nature.
Beyond his many accomplishments, Bill’s heart belonged to his family. He was married for nearly 40 years to Megan Lesley Sharp of Jersey Village, and though life took them on different paths, they remained dearest friends. He took immense pride in his children—his daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Jim Carlin of Jersey Village, and his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tina Bowen of Copenhagen, Denmark. His grandchildren, Haley and Hunter Carlin of Houston, and Emily and Thomas Bowen of Copenhagen, brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Sallie Sharp and husband Mike McKetta of Santa Fe, NM, Robert C. Sharp of Elgin, TX, and John C. Sharp and wife Frances Sharp of Elgin, TX.
Bill will be laid to rest on Friday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m. in the Lytle Masonic Cemetery, Lytle, Texas, beside his mother and grandparents. His legacy of generosity, mentorship, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In honor of Bill’s love for animals, the family asks that donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in his memory.
Ride free, Bill. Your journey continues.
